Shakespeare Garden in Central Park
Formally the Garden of Heart, this garden was renamed in 1916 to Shakespeare Garden. The garden is filled with plants and flowers mentioned in Shakespeare's work. There are also flowers found here from Shakespeare's private garden Stratford-upon-Avon. The Garden holds plants such as pansies and rosemary, from Hamlet. These were alluded to by Ophelia. Thistle can be found here depending on the season. Thistle was mentioned in the play Much Ado About Nothing. Visitors can find more information about plant life by discovering the bronze plaques holding Shakespeare's quotations along the path. The Delacorte Theatre is adjacent to the park. This is where the annual "Shakespeare in the Park" is held during the warmer months. Please explore some of the flowers that can be found in this hidden jewel of Central Park.
